...So I deleted the game's save file, and got round that issue.
(If anyone else wants to know how to replay, message me and I'll let you know)
So yeah, now that I've actually played through the various possibilities of how to spend your last week, I'm a little disappointed in how many variations there are. I mean, if this was MY last week on Earth, I can think of much more things to do than just go to work, the park, or stay at home!
And in this game, there are no real consequences for ANY of your actions, unless you go to the lab every day. Your wife and daughter still die (in slightly different, but let's face it: irrelevant) ways. Everyone else still dies in the exact same ways. You can choose which location to die in - big deal.
I like the concept of a game where you must make these difficult (moral?) decisions, but I wish there was more depth to the possibilities and consequences for what you choose to do.
And the only way to "win" the game is to not explore any of the interesting choices of the game... and you can't even go back to replay an alternate route, so that would just make it frustrating!
So to summarise, I feel as though if people WERE given the option to replay the game, their opinion of its creativity would drop massively.
...But it's still an interesting idea, so I'll give you points for that.
I really enjoy this style of games - and even though I don't think this is the best one I've seen, I still found it fun enough to play for at least 40 minutes!
The only real problem that I have with it is how you spend AGES flying through the air, completely unable to control anything, on each run (after the first few). You've made it too easy to keep getting boosts and set the target distance too far, in my opinion.
Other (more minor) things I would point out:
The glider is not (currently) a great idea since it costs a lot of money, doesn't boost you much further (compared to the initial throw), means you need to keep watching the game for a long time until you land, and doesn't even get used most of the time due to spears stopping you! You should AT LEAST have made it much cheaper, so people can use it earlier on in the game.
I feel you should have made it clearer that bombs would be restocked at the end of each run, rather than them being a single-use item.
Some of the achievements (e.g. landing on 20 spears) take far too long, thus making them fairly pointless. I think you should have made them more reachable goals and possibly even awarded a money bonus for some of them (assuming the achievements reset after each game, that is).
Also, I think the king character should be unlocked only after completing the game. Otherwise it sort of defeats the plot a bit.
Anyway, putting all of this aside I still found it a great game to play. It's a fun little theme you've used, and the gameplay works very well. Great job!
p.s. I wrote this whole review during ONE catapult! Surely that proves my point about it taking too long per run?? :P
After 2 long sessions of pizza delivering, I finally reached the top rank with 500 pizzas delivered :) ... And to be honest, that took much longer than it should have done for a game this repetitive! The top rank should be at more like 250.
I thought the overall game was very good and creative, although the repetitive missions means you probably wouldn't want to come back and play it again.
I was also a bit confused at first since I assumed the most important objective would be to deliver the pizzas quickly - but in fact, the only thing you need to worry about is damage!
The mini-quests were also a nice touch you added, however, even after delivering 500 pizzas I still feel like I've only completed half the game since there are so many items I haven't found/delivered. Since there's no map of where to take the items, it takes ages to work out where things are meant to go - so I ended up giving up on that!
And on that topic, how are you meant to get into that area with 3 items in it around the bottom right of the map? It's completely boxed in, and there are no clues for how to enter.
Anyway, this is a great game but if you decide to make it sequel, either make it shorter or less repetitive... and give us some sort of guidance on what to do with the mini-quests!
The big problem with this game is what happens to your movement when you let go of 'a': You have no control whatsoever on your movement until you are totally stationary!
You should have made the controls more copter-style, so that you can pick up speed again, instantly, at any point during your run. The way it is now, it is all too easy to stop underneath an obstacle and be unable to move out of the way in time!
Also, I think you've gone a bit over the top with the added acceleration challenge - this makes it TOO hard to dodge obstacles, in my opinion.
I did manage to beat the first level on easy in 5.8 seconds eventually, but the method you have to use to reach this challenge time is not what I'd personally consider fun to work out. And the thought of repeating this trial-and-error method to reach the challenge time in all 15 levels?... No thanks!
With such a simple game concept, I'm almost surprised that no one (I've seen) has done it before...
However, it would be unfair to rate this too highly since it's so basic.
I'm also left wondering: Is it actually possible to calculate whether a level is possible to complete, without actually doing it yourself? Almost certainly yes, but...how?
I couldn't shuffle things around the right way to get past lvl 10 :(
You've definitely made this game at least as fun to play as the original - the gameplay is brilliant! However, there is a big problem with the difficulty.
On day 5, I reached the moon. On day 6, I reached mars. On day 7, I tried to go as high as I could out of interest - but after reaching 100,000+ feet I got bored and (10 minutes later!!) hit the ground. This huge flight earned over $25 million.
So basically, although the huge number of available upgrades looks great, it just doesn't fit into the game properly - it's much too easy to make a giant flight and beat the game ridiculously soon.
In fact, on day 8 I fires the hedgehog off at its max speed to the right and left it to drop - and 15 minutes later it was still going! Surely this proves there are too many launch pads or something, because you should NOT be able to keep going for 15 minutes without touching the keyboard!
I love the idea of this game, but (unlike the original) I don't think you've got the balance of difficulty/money/upgrades right this time.
Why didn't you go for a simple arrow keys version of the game, rather than trying to control it all with the mouse? The ONLY control you have in this game is moving to the right direction and trying to click at the right time.
You should have used different keys (e.g. Z, X, C) to control what type of shot to play (Normal, drop, lob, or whatever), and movement/shot direction with the arrow keys. That would have worked much better.
Also, the game is quite unrealistic in that you shouldn't have to click to hit the ball when it is right on top of you - you need to start making your shot when the ball is in front of you.
And what about the line judges? You've drawn them in, but they do nothing! Small details like having the line judge stick their arm out when the ball is out, would make the game much better.
In summary, the game could be made quite good, but it needs a lot more detail than this.
The two jokes of the game - when you die and when you finish it - are brilliant! (Although slightly annoying if you die twice, so already know what's going to happen.) So you get a good score for the ideas behind that.
However, the actual gameplay is obviously nothing special, so I don't want to rate you any higher because of that. The coins don't even do anything, and you have to make a couple of jumps blind so you might end up dying unfairly!
you don't have to jump blindly when you're on the moving platform, you just have to wait until it goes all the way down to see where the ground/the other platform is. But yeah, it's that one spot and it shouldn't have been there.
Not very fun. Not very original. 90% of the questions are so irrelevant to anything I know that the game comes down to pointless guessing (or equally pointless memory of answers to every question, which I really cannot be bothered with).
In summary, I don't think this is very good at all.
Don't get me wrong here - I love this new (original) idea of "upgrade EVERYTHING", it's just that a lot of it hasn't been thought through very well.
For example:
The final graphics upgrade is (in my opinion) the most annoying to actually play!
The progress bar goes up to 110%... and you can complete the game at 100%... huh?!
Unless you make a very weird choice of weapons (e.g. lots of speed things), the fully upgraded ship achievement takes MUCH longer to complete than anything else.
Actual gameplay is extremely limited; you cannot even move up and down (or upgrade your ship to enable those keys!)
Weapons do not look any different when upgraded; they do not change size/shape/colour.
...Like I said, it's a good idea, I just feel that you could have made this game so much better than you actually did.
